The Bushy dam is one of the most visited spots in Lonavala, located on the INS Shivaji road, the dam becomes all the more beautiful during monsoon season. The artificial waterfall created by using the gushing water of the dam attracts a lot of tourists, especially in the monsoon season. Rajmachi Fort is located at a distance of 15 km from Lonavala and Khandala, is one of the most popular tourist places near Mumbai for trekking. This famous fort lies at an altitude of 2710 feet.

 

Historically, Rajmachi Fort, which belonged to the famous king Shivaji, was a strategic fort to control Bor Ghat between Khopoli and Khandala on Mumbai-Pune route and was a historical trade route. One can explore quite a few historical monuments in and around Rajmachi fort. There are two small forests as well named as  Shrivardhan and Manoranjan located very close to the Rajmachi Fort. 
 

5. Lohagad Fort

Located at a distance of 11 km from Lonavala, Lohagad Fort an architectural magnificence was built in 1564 as a prison which was later served as a treasury by Shivaji. The hill fort is located at an altitude of 1050 meters which resembles the fangs of a scorpion. Also, an ideal destination for trekking, where the trekkers start from Malavli the base trek, which is around 7 km from Lohagad and takes around 2 hours of time to complete the trek.

 

One can also enjoy aerial views of Karla, Bhaja caves, which are open to the public throughout the year and views of Pawna Lake as well from the top.
