About Mandvi Gate

Mandvi Gate, regularly named as the North door of the Royal Enclosure, is one of the significant points of interest in Vadodara going back to the Mughal period. It is situated at the focal point of the walled city where the streets prompting the 4 doors crosses. The word 'Mandvi' gets from the Sanskrit word mandapa meaning a pillared corridor. Worked by Sultan Muzaffar 1511-26 AD, this square-molded structure highlights three striking curved openings on every one of its four sides. Set apart by a commercial center in the present time, this door isolates the two mixed lanes into four that meet in the inside. It is trusted that it was utilized for gathering toll from vendors and brokers. It was additionally used to make declarations for the city. Under the requests of Damaji Rao II, this door was redesigned by Governor Malharoa Maloji in 1736 AD.
